Principles

In compliance with AMU's Doctoral Charter and the Order of May 25, 2016 on doctoral training, the University of Aix-Marseille has set up a "Contrat Individuel de Formation" (CIF) for doctoral students, which requires them to complete and validate a minimum of 100 hours of training over the duration of their thesis. The aim is to meet the needs of doctoral students for the completion of their thesis and the pursuit of their professional career, by enabling them to acquire new knowledge and enhance their skills.

Doctoral students enrolled in a thesis program undertake to validate 100 hours of training at the end of their 3-year thesis, broken down as follows:

  • 50 hours of scientific, disciplinary and/or interdisciplinary training
  • 50 hours of professional training to support career development.

Validation of the 100 hours of training is a prerequisite for the thesis defense. However, full-time salaried doctoral students, CIFRE students and retired doctoral students may be exempted from the 50 hours of professional training.

Disciplinary training courses in Economics and Management are organized by the Doctoral School and the research laboratories. To register for these courses, log on to Adum.

Interdisciplinary and professional training courses are offered by the Doctoral School, in partnership with various academic and non-academic organizations and structures. The specificity and challenge of Collège Doctoral's training courses is their cross-disciplinary nature. They aim to arouse the interest and meet the expectations of all doctoral students, whatever their field of study.

Individual training plan

An indicative individual training plan must be submitted by the doctoral student within 3 months of his or her first thesis registration. This training plan must include 50 scientific/disciplinary/interdisciplinary hours and 50 hours of professional training. Salaried doctoral students automatically receive the 50 hours of professional training. Doctoral students working as monitors follow professionalization courses, which are also automatically validated.

Special provisions

  • Two compulsory 1st-year courses -"Research Ethics" and "Scientific Integrity " - offered by distance learning in French and English.

  • One compulsory training course to be taken during the thesis and before submission of the defense application: "Sensibilisation à la Science Ouverte" ("Awareness of Open Science")

  • Non-catalog training courses organized by Research Units or outside organizations can also be taken into account.

The total number of hours validated in the form of equivalences may not exceed 10 hours. Participation in a conference does not give the right to validation of equivalences unless the doctoral student demonstrates that he/she has presented his/her work at the conference (as a poster or oral presentation) and that his/her work has been selected following a call for papers.

Doctoral students must declare these activities in their personal ADUM space as "non-catalog" training courses, and attach a certificate indicating the content of the training course and the number of hours attended. This attestation must be signed by the organizer.
