Article 4 of the AMU thesis charter states:
"In exceptional circumstances, and at the doctoral student's request, an uninterrupted period of up to one year
of one year may be granted once only. It is granted by decision of the head of the doctoral student's enrolling
the doctoral student's place of enrolment, with the agreement of the employer, where applicable, and the opinion of the thesis director and the director of the doctoral school
doctoral school. Doctoral training and research work are temporarily suspended, but the doctoral student may,
remain enrolled at their institution if they so wish. This period is not included in the duration of the
of the thesis. The institution guarantees that the doctoral student will remain enrolled in the doctoral program at the end of the gap period
period".
Campaigns to apply for a gap year take place twice a year, in March and September (see gap year instructions below).
